Geo

Rising from the canyons of Downtown New York, “Geo” immerses the public in a full-spectrum world of color and light. A microcosm of its towering urban context, the project is composed of vertical prisms that interlock to form crystalline clusters. Each steel frame is interwoven with fluorescent paracord that provides a pop of color during the day, and a glowing surreal burst at night. Over 5 miles of rope was vertically oriented, creating a shimmering affect that continuously shifts as one moves through the project.

Geo’s broad footprint is designed to maximize structural stability while its efficient use of material defines a large and highly transparent volume of space. The perimeter of the project is punctuated by five entrances and interconnected corridors, effectively welcoming newcomers to meander and explore the project, while also being open enough for locals to pass through unimpeded when getting from point A to point B.

Geo was located at 140 Broadway and open to the public until May, 2023. The project was built with the support of the Alliance for Downtown New York.
